NOTICE OF RACE

 

RULES:   This race will be governed by the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, and the rules of the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet, except as any of these are changed by the Ventura Yacht Club 2008 Governor’s Cup Sailing Instructions.

 ELIGIBILITY:   This race is open to current members of recognized yacht clubs who enter boats with current and valid PHRF certificates.  This is a PHRF Category III event and area A Random Leg Course handicaps will be used.  PHRF membership is not required for non-spinnaker class and multihull class entries.  Non-spinnaker entries without a valid handicap will be assigned a temporary handicap by the race committee.  ORCA handicaps will be used for multihull entries.  The PHRF Marine Industry Racer (MIR) Rule is not in effect.

 ENTRIES:   Entries will be accepted up to 0900 hours on June 14, 2008.  The entry fee is $35, or $30 to current members of USSA.  Present current USSA membership card at the Skipper’s Meeting to obtain discount.  The Sailing Instructions will be provided to each entrant at the Skipper’s Meeting, which will be held promptly at 0900 hours at the Ventura Yacht Club.

 TIME:   The warning signal for the first class is scheduled for 1155 hours.

START:   The starting area will be in the vicinity of the “Mandalay” race mark, Lat: 34o 12.0N; Lon: 119o 16.5W.

 CLASSES:   PHRF handicapped spinnaker, non-spinnaker, and multihull classes are planned.  Class breaks will be announced at the Skipper’s meeting.

 COURSES:   Courses will be chosen from the course chart attached to the sailing instructions.  Although the Sunset Rule will apply, no courses will be less than 18 miles as per the Governor's Cup Deed of Gift.  Please plan your evening activities accordingly!

 TROPHIES:   Individual awards will be presented to the top boats in each class at VYC after the race on June 14.  The names of each offshore class winner will be engraved on the Governor’s Cup Perpetual Trophy and will be awarded at the Annual Awards Dinner in January, 2009 at the Ventura Yacht Club.

  SOCIAL ACTIVITIES:  The VYC Saturday Grill Night & Sunset Happy Hour extends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bar service is available until 9 p.m.  All participants are welcome!
