The Ventura Yacht Club, and Sail California, in conjunction with the U.S. J/24 Class Association (USJCA), Fleet 145, invites all classes of J/Boats to participate in the J/Fest (Ventura) 2008 regatta and J/24 Western Regionals. Five (5) closed-course races for one-design and PHRF classes are planned.

RULES: The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005-2008, the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, the rules of the participating classes, this Notice of Race (except as any of these are changed by the sailing instructions), and by the J/Fest (Ventura) 2008 and J/24 Western Regional Championship Sailing Instructions. Closed Course races will use Area A buoy ratings and are PHRF Category 4. No coach boats will be allowed.

 

ELIGIBILITY: This regatta is invitational to J/Boat owners who are members of recognized yachts clubs, and J/Boats with valid PHRF or one-design class certificates. Class requirements (crew weigh-in, measurement sign-off, etc.) will be strictly enforced.

 

ENTRIES: A completed J/Fest (Ventura) 2008 Entry Form must be received by the Ventura Yacht Club Race Committee by 0830 on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Closing time for receipt of entries will be strictly enforced.

 

ENTRY FEES: The fee for entries received prior to July 20 are $75 for J/24 entrants and $70 for entrants competing in all other classes. The fee for entries after July 20 are $90 for J/24 entrants and $85 for entrants in all other classes. Five (5) dinner tickets are included as part of the entry fee for all entrants. Early entry is encouraged!

 

RACE ENTRY AND REGISTRATION: An entry form for J/Fest (Ventura) 2008 and J/24 Western Regional Championship is included with this Notice of Race. The schedule for registration and weigh-in (J/24 class) for all entrants is:  

FRIDAY (July 25) 1400-2000 hours

SATURDAY (July26) 0700-0830 hours

 

BERTHING AND LAUNCHING: Berthing at the Ventura Yacht Club guest dock and on-site parking for boat trailers will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.  The Ventura Yacht Club maintains and operates its own hoist which will be available for entrants’ use on Friday from 1400-2000 hours, Saturday from 0700-1000 hours, and as necessary at the conclusion of the event.  A VYC member will be available during those hours to assist entrants with the use of the hoist. The hoist is available at other times by appointment. Once launched, no boats can be hauled out until after the last race on Sunday.

 

CLASSES: In addition to the J/24 Class, one-design classes will be established with a minimum of four (4) boats. Projected classes are J/24, J/29 and J/30. PHRF fleets will be established based on the number of entrants. Projected to race in the PHRF class are J/35, J/120, J/130 and J/133 entrants.

 

RACE VENUE AND STARTING TIMES: The racing will commence from a starting line located approximately one (1) mile west of the Ventura Harbor R2 buoy. The starting time for the first race will be 1200 hours on Saturday and Sunday. The order of starts will be announced at the Skipper’s meeting.

 

AWARDS: Awards will be presented to winners at the conclusion of racing on Sunday. In addition to trophies for class winners, awards will also be made to top lady skipper and top master (55 years old and over) in the J/24 class.

 

HOSPITALITY: Friday – VYC bar and dining room open. Saturday – Complimentary continental breakfast, and Saturday dinner (each entry receives 5 dinner tickets. Additional dinner tickets $13 each). Sunday – Breakfast available in the VYC dining room, and Sunday hors d’oeuvres.
