Commodore Classic Race set for June 29
VENTURA (upi)
-- The Commodore Classic race, hosted by Ventura Yacht Club last December
turned out to be one of the highlights of the whole sailing season. So the
club is going to do it again.
Commodore
Classic Revival 2 has been scheduled for Sunday, June 29. The race will be
followed by gala festivities at VYC, including massive amounts of
appetizers.
The December race
attracted 23 boats and more than 40 commodores. Every club in the area --
except for Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club -- put boats on the water.
Anacapa Yacht Club had four commodores on one boat.
The event is open
to cruising type boats and a commodore must be driving. (Commodores are
defined as staff commodores, or current commodore, vice commodore or rear
commodore). Turned down last year were a J-35, an Olson 30 and an
Olson 25 -- sorry folks, those are race boats.
VYC's bridge --
Commodore Jeff Stansfield, Vice Commodore Dave Witham and Rear Commodore
MIchael Raider -- have each indicated they will be driving a boat in
Commodore Classic Revival 2. They challenge other clubs to get as many
boats and commodores on the water as possible.
Stansfield said he will spread
the word to the north (Santa Barbara) and to the south (Marina Del Rey,
etc.), to lure commodores from outside the area to the big party. It
would be an excellent time to combine some cruising with the big race and
party. VYC's guest dock will be available before and after the race
for visiting commodores and their boats.
So get that date on your
calendars, folks and dust off those blazers.
Early commitments: No Fear, Islander
Bahama 30, Jeff Stansfield; Sassified, Hunter 40, Dave Witham; Paloma,
Beneteau 36, Michael Raider; Chinook, Catalina 36, Stan Whisenhunt.
