Cline Wins Opening Log Race
By Bill Varie
Our first log race was held on April 12 which started in near ideal conditions
but quickly deteriorated to a wet-wild unpredictable race. A 20- knot
Santa Ana wind suddenly appeared after the start of the race so all of our
preliminary calculations simply blew away. The result were some pretty
lousy times for all of us. The most challenging part of the race for me was
getting my boat in the slip during the Santa Ana and a filled guest dock to my
starboard...but the bow thruster saved the day.
A tip of the hat to our leader, Jim Cline, who won aboard Nunziata with an error
factor of 2.2868 percent.
